Bronny James announced that his decision to enter the 2024 NBA Draft last month. The former USC Trojans guard chose to maintain his college eligibility, while also entering the transfer portal. There has been plenty of attention on the son of future Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer LeBron James at this week’s 2024 NBA Draft Combine.
Much of the chatter surrounding Bronny has been regarding his father’s stated desire for the duo to team up. While he has not previously addressed the idea, the younger James was asked about the possibility at the combine, responding:
No, never. My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and of course get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. I never thought about just playing with my dad, but of course he’s brought it up a couple of times. But yeah, I don’t think about it much.
There had been talks that LeBron could opt to sign with whichever team drafts his son. That chatter has died down in recent weeks as the general consensus is that the four-time NBA MVP will opt to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bronny James expected to remain in 2024 NBA Draft
Despite entering the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James retained his collegiate eligibility. While he has the option to return to college for a sophomore season, he expected to remain in the draft. Shams Charania of The Athletic shared the news after he was medically cleared, tweeting:
Bronny’s health has been something that teams will likely monitor. He suffered cardiac arrest during an offseason practice last July. His collegiate debut was delayed until December 10th as he missed the first eight games of the season. He appeared in 25 games, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks per game. The freshman shot just 36.6% from the field, 26.7% from three-point range and 67.6% from the free-throw line.
