Donovan Mitchell was the star of the show on Sunday as he scored 39 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers took down the Orlando Magic in game seven. This was a terrific series, and it ended with a terrific game. It looked like the series could be a snore after Cleveland easily went up 2-0, but the Magic deserve a lot of credit for getting back in the series.
For awhile on Sunday, it looked like the Magic were going to be the team moving on. They led by as many as 18 points in the first half, but Donovan Mitchell ended up playing too well for his Cavaliers to lose. He was tired of losing of the first round of the playoffs, and he wasn’t going to let it happen again.
“I’m tired of losing in the first round,” Donovan Mitchell said, according to an article from ESPN. “You work too hard. We work too hard. That was my mindset … for me, just be in attack mode. I’m battling through what I’m battling through, but I could battle through it and figure it out, or rehab it for the next three or four months. That’s where I’m at mentally.”
That mindset worked out for Mitchell. He is the leader of this team, and it’s clear that his teammates have a ton of respect for him.
“He’s a competitor,” Darius Garland said. “He’s a go-getter. He’s a winner — that’s all he talks about. He wants us to get over this hump. He’s going to do anything possible to get us over it.”
Now, Donovan Mitchell and the Cavaliers are moving on to take on the top seed in the East, the Boston Celtics. That should be a great series.
