Grant Williams is coming off of the best season of his five-year NBA career. It also marked his first time not competing in the postseason. Meanwhile, his two previous teams – the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks – met in the NBA Finals.

While his Charlotte Hornets are not expected to contend next season, Bobby Marks believes the Philadelphia 76ers should target Williams. In an ESPN+ exclusive, the former NBA executive wrote:

How does Grant Williams fit with the team long term? Williams has three years and $41 million left on his contract, and he has value with the Hornets and teams that are looking for a stretch 4 (hello, Philadelphia 76ers). [h/t ESPN]

Williams averaged 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in 28.0 minutes per game last season. He set career-highs in scoring, assists and steals. The fifth-year forward shot 45.6% from the field, 37.5% from three-point range and 75.7% from the free-throw line.

His production went up tremendously following a midseason trade from the Mavericks to the Hornets. While Williams has embraced Charlotte, he would likely welcome a return to a contender.

The Charlotte Hornets have not made the postseason since the 2015-16 season. They have not advanced past the first round since 2001-02. Despite finishing 21-61 last season, Grant Williams believes there is a new life to the franchise.

Speaking to Nick Carboni of WCNC Charlotte, the Hornets forward stated:

The Hornets team has – you can tell there’s a new life to it. It’s been not only with Summer League and Summer League practices, but just with the franchise and supporting one another. We had over 10 players at the Summer League game on the sideline supporting the team.

In all honesty, we’re trying to build something here. And I think that has been a commitment from everyone in the organization. I think everyone is really taking the right approach to become that premier organization in the NBA.

Williams played the best basketball of his five-year career during his 29-game stretch with the Hornets. The franchise will look to bounce back after several key pieces including LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams spent much of last season sidelined with injuries.
