Luka Doncic is in the midst of the best season of his six-year career. The Dallas Mavericks star was named a finalist for the NBA MVP award for the first time in 2023-24. The five-time All-Star joined Gatorade as an ambassador, becoming the seventh NBA player on the company’s roster.

In a statement released, Doncic expressed:

Joining Gatorade is an exciting moment for me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with a brand that has supported so many great athletes. Basketball has given me so much, and together with Gatorade, I’m excited to help more kids experience the benefits of sports.

Gatorade’s Global Head of Sports Marketing Jeff Kearney added:

We’re excited to add another elite talent like Luka to our roster and are looking forward to fueling him during this year’s NBA playoffs and through more groundbreaking seasons. Luka emulates what it means to be a Gatorade athlete – leading others on and off the court and inspiring the next generation.

Doncic joins an impressive list of NBA stars signed to the iconic sports beverage company. The list includes Michael Jordan, Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Zion Williams, Karl Anthony-Towns, and Jaden Ivey. Details of the deal remain unknown.

The announcement comes the day after Doncic led the Mavericks to a 96-93 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Game 2 victory allowed them to even up the first round series and steal home-court advantage as the series heads to Dallas for Game 3 on Friday.

He is coming off the best season of his career as he averaged a league-leading 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks per game while shooting 48.7% from the field, 38.2% from three-point range and 78.6% from the free-throw line. Doncic set career-highs in ppg, apg, spg, 3P% and FT%.
