The Dallas Mavericks came into game four of the Western Conference Finals needing just one more win to advance to the NBA Finals. The Minnesota Timberwolves came into this series as the betting favorite to win it, but the Mavericks rattled off three straight wins to start the series and they were up 3-0. The Timberwolves needed a win on Tuesday night, and they got it. After the game, Luka Doncic took the blame for the loss.
“I think that game is on me,” Doncic said, according to an article from NBA.com. “Just didn’t give enough energy, kind of. So, we got to do better.”
Luka Doncic did have an off game in terms of his shooting percentage as he finished 7-21 from the floor. His scoring was fine as he finished with 28 points and he was 4-11 from deep. He also added 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Doncic had a triple double, but he still took the blame.
Kyrie Irving wasn’t surprised to see Doncic take the blame for the loss because he knows that Doncic is a leader. Irving also held some accountability after the contest.
“He’s not alone in this,” Kyrie Irving said. “I expect him to say something like that, especially knowing how much he cares and how much he wants to win and how much he wants to lead our group. So, I expect nothing less. I think you heard me, too, just say that it’s on me. That’s what you’re supposed to hear from your leaders of your team.”
The Mavericks will look to close the series out in game five on Thursday night back in Minnesota.
