Mitchell Robinson will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the postseason. The New York Knicks center suffered a stress injury to his left ankle. He will be re-evaluated in six to eight weeks, the team announced on Tuesday.
In all likelihood, Robinson’s season is over. His earliest re-evaluation date would be June 18th – six weeks from today – according to the timeline announced by the team. If he is cleared to return on that date, he would be in line to appear in the NBA Finals. Game 6 is set for June 20th with Game 7 taking place three days later.
Even if the Knicks are able to advance to the Finals for the first time since 1999 – and the series advances to a sixth game – the longest-tenured player on the team would likely need to ramp up to game speed before returning to the court. He averaged 2.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.2 blocks in 19.2 minutes per game this postseason. Robinson shot 50.0% from the field in six games, all of which he came off the bench.
Mitchell Robinson has dealt with left ankle injuries all season
Mitchell Robinson appeared in just 31 games this season, making 21 starts. The former second-round pick was sidelined with an injury to his left ankle that required surgery in December. He did not return to the floor until March.
Robinson also missed Game 4 of the New York Knicks’ first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. He expressed his frustration on Twitter, seemingly blaming Joel Embiid for ending his season prematurely. The 2022-23 NBA MVP purposely dragged him to the floor in Game 3.
