NBA reveals announcement schedule for four awards, including MVP

The NBA has announced several awards, including Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, and Coach of the Year. There is still plenty to be revealed, however, with the 2023-24 Kia MVP atop the list. On Sunday, the league revealed that the announcement schedule for the upcoming week.

The Kia Rookie of the Year will be announced on Monday, May 6th. On the following day, the Kia Defensive Player of the Year will be revealed. The league will declare the winner of the most highly-anticipated award – the Kia MVP – on Wednesday, May 8th. Finally, the NBA Social Justice Champion will be named on Thursday, May 9th.

The first three awards will all be announced on TNT, 30 minutes ahead of tip-off. The Rookie of the Year announcement will come at 7:00 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, the Defensive Player of the Year will be announced at 6:30 p.m. ET and the MVP will be announced at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Social Justice Champion will be announced at noon ET.

Who are the finalists for each of the remaining NBA awards?

The Kia Rookie of the Year finalists are Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren, Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama. Holmgren was drafted a year prior, however, he missed the 2022-23 season due to injury. He is the only player of the group who reached the postseason.

The Kia Defensive Player of the Year finalists are Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert and Wembanyama. Gobert is the only player who remains in the postseason. He is looking to win the award for the fourth time. He would tie Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace for the most Defensive Player of the Year awards since its inception in 1982-83.

The Kia MVP finalists are Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. All three players remain in the postseason. Jokic is looking to become the ninth players to win the award three times.
