Ben Simmons has spent much of the past three seasons battling injuries. The three-time All-Star has appeared in just 57 games over that span. He is owed $40.3 million in 2024-25 before entering unrestricted free agency next offseason.
While the Brooklyn Nets have been looking to move on from Simmons, they have struggled to find an interested suitor. Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson reported that teams are wary of having to pay his large salary, tweeting:
Warriors were interested in Ben Simmons heavily when he was a 76er. Now a member of the Brooklyn Nets. I asked someone in the know on the Nets side about Bklyn trading Ben Simmons & they said “It’s hard to.” They shared: Teams are not feeling having to pay him $30 Million-plus and said currently “don’t see it happening.”
Simmons appeared well on his way to being a perennial All-Star during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, even garnering MVP votes in his last season with the franchise. His career trajectory has been derailed over the past three seasons, however, as he has struggled to stay on the court.
Furthermore, in the 57 games he has played, he has not looked like the same player as his numbers have declined across the board. Simmons has averaged 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks in 25.7 minutes per game.
Ben Simmons is not the only player the Brooklyn Nets are open to moving

The Brooklyn Nets made the first big move of the offseason when they traded Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. The trade signaled that the franchise is open for business and looking to rebuild. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that they are open to moving several veteran pieces, writing:
With Brooklyn entering a rebuild, [Cam] Johnson is considered one of several trade candidates, including Dorian Finney-Smith, Bojan Bogdanovic, Dennis Schroder, Ben Simmons, and backup center Day’Ron Sharpe, as previously reported by HoopsHype.
The Nets looked like serious contenders just a few seasons ago as they rostered Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. After finishing 2023-24 with a 32-50 record, Brooklyn could be looking to bottom out with the hopes of rebuilding through the draft.
