Tyus Jones spent the 2023-24 season as the starting point guard for the rebuilding Washington Wizards. It marked the ninth-year veteran’s first season as a full-time starter. While he played well in the new role, it was a surprise when he was not moved at the trade deadline as his timeline did not match the franchise’s.
As Jones navigates free agency, the Wizards are reportedly open to a sign and trade deal. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype shared the news, writing:
Heading into free agency, Jones is looking for starting point guard money on the market. With Washington still in the early stages of a rebuild, there’s a growing sense the Wizards would be more open to a potential sign-and-trade, league sources told HoopsHype.
The notion of a potential sign-and-trade possibility was previously suggested a week ago by rival NBA executives in a HoopsHype report and has now gained more steam. [h/t HoopsHype]
Jones averaged 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.3 blocks and just 1.0 turnovers while shooting 48.9% from the field, 41.4% from three-point range and 80.0% from the free-throw line in 29.3 minutes per game. He broke his own NBA record with a 7.3:1 assist to turnover ratio, leading the league in the category for the sixth consecutive season.

Tyus Jones is among the top point guards available in this year’s free agent market. The nine-year veteran is reportedly looking for a contract that pays him more than $15 million per year. Matt Moore of The Action Network shared the news, writing:
Tyus Jones is looking for a deal north of $15 million per year, two sources said this week. [h/t The Action Network]
Jones earned just under $15 million per year on his last contract – a two-year, $29 million pact. It would not be a surprise to see him earn a slight raise as he showed that he can thrive in a starting role. His list of suitors is unclear, however, there should be more clarity as star players choose their destination in the coming days.
